In the valley we removed the tiles, valley metal and old battens about 4 feet on each side, then installed new 30 lb underlayment, upgraded flow-through battens and a new 30-inch, 5-rib valley metal, and put the original tiles back. At the gable we did the same about 4 feet in from the edge, with new 30 lb underlayment and flow-through battens. We also installed flash band under the hip and ridge caps in the repair area.

3. The result
We replaced the barge rafter and 17 broken tiles, installed five lead flashings to seal large gaps, put new rubber plumbing collars over the old ones and sealed the miter joints with adhesive. The repair carries a 5-year workmanship warranty.
